Meet the horses!
These lovely boys are my partners in writing this blog- they try the products and I write about it. Each horse has very different wants and needs, and I will review different products for each of them. I think it's best to test a product thoroughly before forming an opinion, so I will try some products on all three horses to form a better understanding of what type of horse it suits.
Logan
Logan is a 13yo Standardbred gelding, bred from two American Standardbreds, but foaled here in Australia. He is predominantly used as a pleasure riding horse, but he also enjoys activities such as learning tricks, playing tag with people and doing some natural horsemanship. He has a very muscular build, with large shoulders, a good topline and a quite a high croup. This makes fitting him for rugs and saddles very difficult! For long trail rides we use the NoBit Bridle and for schooling we use a french-link eggbut snaffle from JP Korsteel.
Omar
Omar is a 27yo Thoroughbred x Australian Stock Horse who is now happily retired. In previous years he was used as an allrounder at Adult Riding Club, and did well in dressage as well as trail riding. He needs quite a bit of TLC at his age, and seems predisposed to dry skin, which is something I plan to work on! He also has some old injuries that have not healed too well, so we will hopefully soon have some reviews on what products have helped with that.
Jester
Jester is a 24yo Thoroughbred gelding who only thinks about eating! He is quite a fine-boned horse and even in his old age he looks quite handsome... when he's not mugging you for food that is! After a brief career in racing Jester was picked up as a showjumping horse and he did very well at that until the age of about 14, when he retired. He is now Omar's paddock mate and enjoys a spoiled life doing not much more than eat, sleep and run around the field.
